India defeated Pakistan to won Kabaddi World Cup
On 20th December 2014, Indian Men Team as well as Indian women team won Kabaddi World Cup title. Indian men team defeated Pakistan men team by 45-42 for the fourth time to clinch the title.
Indian women team defeated New Zealand by 36-27 for the second time in a row to bag the title.
Winning team got Rs 2 crore money and First runners up got Rs 1 Crore team.
Rajinder Khanna appointed as new RAW Chief
Among the important appointments, On 20th December 2014, Mr. Rajinder Khanna was appointed as new RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) chief. At the time of appointment he was Special Secretary in RAW.
The Appointments Committee of Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi cleared the name of Mr. Rajinder Khanna who is a 1978 batch RAS cadre.
He will be succeeding Mr. Alok Joshi who is retiring on 31st December 2014.
8.75 percent interest rate on PF deposits for 2014-15 was approved by Finance Ministry
On 19th December 2014 Union Finance Ministry approved 8.75 percent interest rate on Provident Fund (PF) deposits for the year 2014-15.
This decision will be notified by Union Labour Ministry as well as by the Income Tax Department now and will be implemented from the date of notification.
It is also important to mention here that for year 2013-14 it was also 8.75 percent, so basically it has been retained by Central Board of Trustees.
Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry 2014 bagged by noted poetess Imtiaz Dharker
On 17th December 2014, Pakistan born Noted poetess Imtiaz Dharker was awarded with Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry 2014.
She was awarded with this prestigious award for her poetry collection Over the Moon.
Though It will be presented to her in 2014.
She was unanimously chosen for the award by the Poetry Medal Committee at Windsor.
SoftBank Corp to invest 570 crore rupees in Housing.com
On 16th December 2014, Japanese telecom & internet giant SoftBank Corp announced to invest Rs 570 Crore in Housing.com.
With this investment value of Housing.com has increased to 1550 crore rupees.
SoftBank will acquire around 30% stake in the portal for 470 crore rupees.
GSLV Mark-III-X launched successfully by ISRO from Sriharikota
On 18th December 2014, India's heaviest rocket GSLV Mark-III-X (630 tonnes) carrying Crew module Atmospheric Reentry Experiment (CARE) was successfully launched by ISRO(Indian Space Research Organisation).
It will double the capacity of payloads India can carry into space boosting India's mission of sending human to the space.
Ghanta Chakrapani is the first Chairman of TSPSC
On 17th December 2014, Academician and journalist Ghanta Chakrapani was appointed as first Chairman of TSPSC (Telangana State Public Service Commission) and he will be serving at this post for six years.
At the time of appointment he was serving as Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences at B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU).
On 16th December Vijay Diwas was observed in India
On 16th December 2014, India observed the Vijay Diwas and martyrs of Indo-Pak War of 1971 were remembered. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Army Chief D S Suhag, Navy Chief R K Dhowan and Air Chief Arup Raha paid tributes at Amar Jawan Jyoti (New Delhi). Special programmes were also organised to remember nation's heros.

On 16th December 1971, Chief of Pakistan forces General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi along with 93000 troops had surrendered unconditionally to the allied forces consisting of Indian Army and Mukti Bahini, led by General Jagjit Singh Aurora in Dhaka, when Indian defeated Pakistan in 1971 war, end of this war resulted in subsequent secession of East Pakistan into Bangladesh.
Bangladesh celebrates this day as Victory Day.
Dineshwar Sharma appointed as Director of Intelligence Bureau
Dineshwar Sharma was appointed as Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) by the Appointment Committee of Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 13 December 2014.
He will take charge of the office from 1 January 2015 and will have two-year tenure.
Dineshwar Sharma is a senior IPS officer of 1979 batch from Kerala cadre and earlier he was serving as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau.
Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe re-elected
On 14th December 2014, Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe was re-elected for another term as Japan's ruling coalition (Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito) won two thirds majority in the Snap elections held for the Lower House of Bicameral legislature.
